WHY THE GANESH  MANTRA IS A POWERFUL MANTRA TO REMOVE OBSTACLES

Mythological story of Ganesh :  

He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is probably the most popular God . There is hardly a dwelling in India where you will not find an idol of Ganesh and he is equally well known and popular in the West .

He is the elephant headed, big bellied God  - The remover of ALL obstacles .

Mythology goes that Lord Shiva was always in meditation or on other business and Goddess Parvati was getting bored and wanted for a child. She was the power of the universe and one day she created a very handsome boy of about 12/13 years .

She was very pleased with her work and after playing with him for a while she goes to have a bath – The young boy asks her what he should do and she takes him to the entrance of the house and instructs him to stand guard and let no one in until she comes out and tells him otherwise .Just then Lord Shiva , the master of the house appears and walks towards the entrance when he is intercepted by this very handsome lad who bars his entry .

Lord Shiva tells him who he is and to let him pass but the boy is adamant and does not let Lord Shiva enter his own house. Shiva gets angry and picks up the by and throws him away but like lightening the boy is in front of Shiva again and a battle ensues .

Shiva of course has recognized the creation of Parvati , as such was not using all his powers and was getting a thrashing from the boy in turn . A large crowd had gathered around to watch and Vishnu was there as well. Vishnu approaches Shiva and tells him that if word got around that Shiva , the invincible was being thrashed around by a 12 year old lad , whose sole power was from his mother alone , every demon in the universe will start appearing here to fight him , besides the law of creation states that any being should be created by a male and a female.If the boy survives then the very law of creation will be tempered with.

Shiva knew that killing the boy would awaken Parvati’s wrath but he had no choice and opened his third eye wherefrom a fire came out that burnt the head of the boy . At this very moment Parvati appeared at the doorway and seeing her son being destroyed this way got furious. She seemed to take the form of Kali and various weapons started to appear in her newly formed many hands, and all the celestials who had gathered were rooted to their spots by fear .

Parvati said that she will destroy the whole universe since her son had died, and Shiva tried to explain to her why this happened . She insisted that her son be brought back to life and when Shiva explained to her that the boys head was already burnt out ; she insisted that a new head be placed on him . Shiva could not infuse new life into a dead body and could not kill another being to obtain its head; the only solution was to obtain the head of someone who was about to die and to place on the boy’s shoulders ,  and together Shiva and Parvati could infuse life into this new person .

Parvati agreed to this, now pacified returned to her normal form and she and Shiva went for a walk where they came across a young elephant about to breath his last .When the young elephant died , Shiva quickly cut his head and ran to put it on the dead boys shoulders and both Shiva and Parvati infused divine life into the elephant headed boy  -  

and so GANESH was born –the elephant headed GOD.

The celestials were still very frightened of Parvati should she start blaming them for standing by  whilst her son was being killed and to appease Parvati , Vishnu on behalf of all the celestials came forward and blessed the elephant headed child with a boon “hence forth no prayers , rituals , ceremonies  will be accepted by any God or Goddess in this universe until Ganesh is worshiped first and then will the process go smoothly and without any obstacles or hitches ” and till today no one ( in India )  starts any ceremonies , prayers , rituals and even their day without mentioning  the name of Ganesh !

As such the Ganesh Mantra became the mantra to remove obstacles, it has been used by people to get a job, to help move home and is regularly used by people in India before they start their day.

If Ganesha’s mantra is recited and repeated , not only will all obstacles be removed but also you will attract the principles of power , wisdom , goodness  and fortune .
